The Cost of Flying Vs Driving

There are many different ways to calculate the cost of Flying vs Driving.

For calculating the cost of flying, consider:

  • How much will it cost you to park your car at the airport
  • Rental Car + Gas
  • Luggage restrictions at the airport.
To calculate the cost of driving, consider:

  • Cost of gas (Round trip)
  • Overnight stay at hotels enroute
  • Meals while on the road
  • Cost of taking extra vacation days

All of these things must be taken into consideration when factoring the costs of travelling to Disney World.

How do I find out what flying WOULD HAVE COST (versus driving) AFTER I've taken the trip?

Thank you.

Hi Therese!

That's a little bit more complicated to answer, but what we've done in the past is to do a general search on how much the flights are costing us for that time period, take into consideration the cost of parking our car at the airport and the extra cost of luggage on the plane (unless you fly Southwest, bags fly free!). We live in North Carolina so right now it makes sense for us to drive as it's way cheaper than flying, but bear in mind, there are other costs you can factor in such as the cost of losing a vacation day since you would be driving vs a couple of hours if you're flying. That's a hidden cost that you can also factor into the equation. Hope this helps!

I found this site which lists an estimate for flying next to the driving trip.
